HMS Munin

Status: Scrapped

HMS Munin (P152) was a patrol boat of the Hugin class in the Swedish Navy, launched in 1977. HMS Munin could also carry depth charges, but the patrol boats of the 18th Patrol Boat Division were equipped only with a modified hull-mounted Simrad fish hydrophone, which was not a particularly precise anti-submarine warfare tool. Toward the end of their service life, patrol boats of the Kaparen class were given the capability to use a towed array sonar. Munin was unique among all other Hugin-class patrol boats in one respect: she could be steered using a joystick control system. In 2001, all boats in the 18th Patrol Boat Division were decommissioned, and all except Hugin were scrapped. Hugin can now be viewed as a museum ship at the Gothenburg Maritime Museum and Aquarium.
