HM Wasa

Status: Scrapped

Wasa, officially HM Pansarbåt Wasa, was an armored ship of the Swedish Navy built at Bergsunds Mekaniska Verkstads AB’s Finnboda shipyard in Stockholm as part of the Äran class. She was ordered on 12 October 1899, launched on 29 May 1901, and commissioned into service on 6 December 1902. The ship was 89.7 m long, 15.02 m wide, had a draft of 5.02 m and displaced about 3 650–3 735 tons, with a top speed of about 16.8 knots and a range of around 3 000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her main armament consisted of two 21.0 cm guns and six 15.2 cm guns, supported by a number of smaller caliber weapons. Wasa served in the Swedish coastal defence fleet, including during the First World War era, but by the outbreak of the Second World War she was considered too worn for modern combat and was decommissioned on 15 March 1940; the ship was later sold for scrap in Karlskrona in 1961.
